The apostle Paul encouraged Timothy
to not let anyone look down on him because of his youth, but “set an
example for the believers in speech, life, love, faith, and in purity”
(1 Timothy 4:12). Katie and Kelcey Simpson have taken this passage to
heart. They epitomize what it means to be teenage Christians. Whether
teaching in the KFC program or serving two sessions of camp as
counselors and campers the last session, these young ladies are
examples. They have not missed a mission trip or an opportunity to
serve.
Katie and Kelcey have gutted houses in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and
have cried and prayed with those it left in its path. They have served
food to the homeless in the homeless shelters in Inner City Fort Worth
and prayed with some of its neediest residents.
Their leadership has been outstanding as they have taken many young
ladies under their wing and had the right thing to say or do to make
them feel more welcome in the youth group and to encourage them in their
walk with God.
Their Christian example was evident to the Camp Kurios staff as they
jointly received overwhelming support for the “I am Third “ award.
Both of these young ladies are Seniors and both plan to attend a
Christian college. Kelcey and Katie will be leaving big shoes to fill in
the youth group, but they have shown underclassmen what it means to walk
the Christian walk.
