ach month we present a"Servant’s Towel" to some individual or couple whose faithful service reflects the spirit exemplified by our Lord in John 13. When Jesus picked up the towel at that evening meal he was intentionally providing a model for us to follow. The Master said in verse 15, "I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you."
On June 22 we recognized a couple who have been active in many ministries here at College Avenue, but we especially honor them for their work as missionaries. They have not only taught many lost souls overseas, but they have also equipped and encouraged others to share the gospel with hundreds of individuals in countries like Kenya,
Nigeria, and Ghana.
And the unique thing about this ministry is that they have been missionaries
without ever leaving Union County. In the past few years our World Bible School workers have mailed out more than 3000 introductory lessons and
almost 500 advanced lessons, thanks to the leadership of the couple we recognized in June.
Each week they faithfully drop by the church office to check on the mail, and each Wednesday night when they have new students they lead the World Bible School workers in processing the lessons. Because of the nature of this ministry we will never know the full extent of the good they are doing until we reach heaven, but we have been informed of several baptisms, and we do trust the promise of God that if we sow the seed, He will provide a harvest (1 Corinthians 3:6). For their work over the past four years in leading the World Bible School program, we presented the Servant Towel for June to Frank & Vivian Smith.
