E ach month our leaders select aperson or couple from this church family to receive a "Servant Towel." This practice is especially important to us because one of our goals here at College Avenue is to truly be a church "of Christ" and on the night before his death Jesus used a towel to leave us an unforgettable example of serving. Last month we recognized a couple who have a long history of serving here at College Avenue – in fact, their service goes all the way back to the beginning of this church family. For more than 54 years Donald & Jewel Canady have been an important source of strength to this congregation. One word that comes to mind when describing their service is "dependable," because they have aptly fulfilled the Titus 3:1 to be "ready to every good work." They have both been very active in our Bible School program, our Prime-Timers, and our Care Groups. Jewel has taught generations of 1st graders here at College Avenue. Donald taught adult Bible classes and has been a resource speaker for the young adults classes on stewardship. She takes the roll in the Tuesday morning Ladies class; he co-leads the Growth Group here at our building on Sunday nights. Donald has served as our church treasurer; Jewel is active in community service organizations and for her good work was recognized as one of the "Five Who Care" back in 2007. Every year he encourages us to support the Children’s Homes by filling a "Change for Children" can; she is always there to take food to a family in need, even if they’re not in her Care Group. And, of course, no gathering would be complete without her famous rolls! For their more than five decades of faithful service, we recognized Donald and Jewel Canady with our "Servant Towel" for February. –Dan
