At the beginning of 2008 our
shepherds began a new tradition here at College Avenue. From time to
time they present a "Servant's Towel" to individuals or couples in our
congregation who exemplify the servant attitude of Jesus.
The towel was an obvious choice because it
represents the true leadership as found in God's Word. In John 13
as Jesus was about to sit down with his disciples for the Passover
Feast, the Son of Almighty God humbled Himself and demonstrated the
nature of a servant as He washed the dirty feet of His disciples. He
then used this episode to teach them a lesson he repeated often:
that greatness in the kingdom of God comes from serving others (Matthew
20:24-28; John 13:12-17).
There are literally hundreds of dedicated
disciples serving faithfully in the ministries of this good church
family. We are thankful for ALL those who have caught the spirit of
Jesus and are imitating their Lord by serving!
