Dear College Avenue Family,
Spring has just arrived. Although this winter did not seem to be as
cold as last year, I am so glad to have warm, sunny days. I want to
update you on the many good things have been happening during this
past winter season. We were fortunate to have our second Let’s
Start Talking (LST) team, Karin Chen, Emily Newhouse, Andrea
Seifert, and Daniel Williams, who came and spent 6 weeks in June and
July teaching the Bible using English. During that time, we also
had our first Young Friends Camp, put on by the youth at Fourth
Avenue Church of Christ in Franklin, TN. Young Friends is like LST
in that teens teach teens about the Bible in English. We also had a
successful Friends Camp put on by Britt Davis.
July ended with a Sponsoring Church campaign, including 25
campaigners from the churches of Highland in Abilene, Westover Hills
in Austin, and Eastside in Colorado Springs. They helped us do a
four day VBS, with the theme of the “Incredibles” of the Old
Testament. Our biggest night had 51 children, and we had an
incredible time!
Prayer Requests:
*Currently, Matt, Sascha, and I are continuing with several of the
readers from LST. We are studying the book of Acts, and I have some
readers who are always asking thought-provoking questions and making
me love my time and my purpose here. We currently have a total of
30 Bible studies in English and Portuguese. Please pray that
people’s hearts will be open and receptive.
*During this winter, we have also been very blessed to have several
new brothers and sisters in Christ: Elisangela, Isabel, Claudio,
Rute, Gabriel, Moises, and Nathalia. Please pray for each of them
as they begin a brand new life with Christ.
*The Blume family arrived in the US this week for their furlough.
Please keep them in your prayers as they travel to visit with their
families and churches across the south.
I
have been thinking a lot about all of you since Hurricane Katrina
and Hurricane Rita, especially my family and friends on the MS Gulf
Coast. My heart has broken several times with news coverage and
personal stories that I have been told. However, I feel such a
since of pride for my country and the spirit that everyone has of
helpfulness and hope. So to my MS friends and family: although I
am a continent away, you are constantly in my thoughts and prayers
here. And you have a church family here in Porto Alegre praying for
you and asking how you are doing every day. I love you all, and I
am here for you in whatever way I can help. May God bless you in
every moment.
In
Christian love,
Tessa |
